Oboe Brilliance, established in 2010, is committed to creating both lasting pedagogy for oboists of today and tomorrow plus a growing tree of repertoire for oboists of today and tomorrow.
Oboe student since 1974, music teacher of flute, oboe, piano and composition from 1992 - 2016, internationally recognized and published composer since 2012, Oboe Brilliance founder, Ms. Potter's work is now studied by oboists of various ages and levels, on every continent the oboe is played. She can be a visiting composer, lecturer, coach and/or performer in residence to musicians of any age or skill level.
* Kathryn J. Potter's book “Illuminations”, a unique collection of 23 easy oboe solos portraying flowers, praised by the A.F.H. , is enjoyed by both children and adult oboists, on every continent the oboe is played. Her first quartet for four oboes, “Flying with Ravens into the Night” composed for her own oboe studio and premiered 2010 in Asheville, N.C., became an event in Paris during the OboeParis2012 festival. This work is now serves as part of the curriculum in some Parisian Conservatories and is enjoyed by oboe studio in performances.
Ms. Potter is a composer from the Darius Milhaud lineage, and was the first female student of Karel Husa. 12 years of ballet study, decades of meditating, choral singing, and a deep love of nature hold significant influence in her unique musical voice.
